Sport and Exercise Science - Single Vocational A Level (BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate) at Bolton Sixth Form College

Course description

Can you see yourself treating Jessica Ennis Hill after completing the seven events in the heptathlon or teaching a group of fitness instructors the bones and muscles in the human body? Does the science behind sport fascinate you? Do you want to know how to help an athlete become faster, higher or stronger? If so then this is the course for you!

Course content

The course covers six units including Anatomy for Sport and Exercise, Sport and Exercise Physiology, Sport and Exercise Psychology and Sports Massage.

You will develop a responsible and co-operative approach to working on your own and as part of a group, developing skills such as team work and communication alongside your academic skills. The course uses practical activities, presentations and involvement with local sporting professionals wherever possible to enhance the learning experience.

As part of this course you will have the opportunity to complete the Level 2 Gym Instructor course run by Focus training and is aimed at those hoping to pursue a career within the health and fitness industry. The course equips you with the skills, knowledge and understanding to work with gym users, helping them to reach their health and fitness goals. The qualification is nationally accredited and recognised throughout the UK and overseas.

Entry requirements

Students will be expected to have a minimum of two GCSEs at grade B/6 and three GCSEs at grade C/4 including English Language and Mathematics at grade 4. This course may be taken alongside A level courses and may be more suited to learners with a strong profile of prior attainment in vocational studies.

Financial information

No course fees are applicable for 16-18 year old learners who meet funding regulations.

Future opportunities

This course is a scientific based programme that prepares you for work in sports industry, or progression on to Higher Education to study a sport science related degree such as Physical Education, Sports Rehabilitation/Therapy, Sports Psychology or Exercise Physiology.
