Vehicle Accident Repair Paint Diploma Level 2 at Colchester Institute

Course description

The Vehicle Accident Repair Paint Diploma course has been designed to enhance students’ vehicle body repair/re-finishing skills, knowledge and understanding to level 2.

The vehicle body repair part of the programme will provide continued theory and practice relating to workshop practices and safety, pre-repair inspection and evaluation, removal of corrosion, dent repair, panel removal and replacement, welding techniques, GRP fabrication and repair, chassis alignment and thermo-plastic welding.

The vehicle re-finishing part of the programme includes paint preparation, chip repair techniques, spraying equipment set­up, matching paintwork, paint application, burnishing and polishing, identification and rectification of surface defects and cleaning and valeting.

  • Functional Skills/GCSEs

Practical work will be undertaken in the workshops on our own vehicles, commercial projects and students’ own vehicles as appropriate. In addition to your main programme, You will also engage in GEM and GAP activities to develop your English, maths and employability skills.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs (grades A*-E), including English and maths, or satisfactory results in Maintenance and Paint Refinishing Level 1, and an interview.

Future opportunities

Employment in the body repair and re-finishing industry or further study and training, including progression to the Level 3 in Paint Principles
