Health and Social Care Apprenticeship Level 2 at Malvern Hills College

Course description

This is ideally for learners with a desire to work in the social care sector. The qualification will guide and assess the development of knowledge and skills relating to working in health and social care. It also confirms the learner's competence in these areas and is the required qualification for all new practitioners.

Course content

What’s involved?

Units studied will include Communication, Equality and Inclusion, Principles of Safeguarding and Duty of Care. You will have hands on experience through your work setting. Alongside this qualification you will study a Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care Level 2 plus Functional Skills in Maths and English at Level 1.

How will I be studying?

You will attend College for day release or short workshops and be working at your place of employment for the remainder of the week.

Entry requirements

This qualification is required for all new practitioners. There are no formal entry requirements; however you must be employed in a Health and Social Care setting in a role that is mainly under supervision, you will need to demonstrate good interpersonal skills, a respect for your clients, a suitable level of physical fitness and a motivation to succeed in the sector. You will also require a successful interview and must be able to supply a suitable reference and undertake a DBS (formerly CRB) check.


Assessment will take a number of formats such as oral questions, observation, log or reflective diary, case studies, portfolio of evidence, expert witness evidence, written and pictorial information, reflection on own practice, assessment set by the awarding body. The majority of assessment will be carried out in your normal place of work.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of the Apprenticeship will give you the opportunity for progression to further study such as the Advanced Apprenticeship or into a variety of job roles such as working in residential care, supported living projects, community based care or acute health environments.
