English Literature at The Fallibroome Academy

Course description

The AS and A Level English Literature course develops further the analytical skills acquired during the GCSE course, delving much deeper into the subtlety and dynamics of prose, poetry and drama.Texts for study are drawn from a range of historical periods as well as the present day. Such a time scale allows for a fascinating variety of material. Students will study the work of William Shakespeare - his genius, his lyrical lines and inventive choice of words; his warmth and understanding of the human condition. Contemporary writers are also represented on the course. The social context of literary work will be a further focus, involving the examination of how interpretation of text changes through time and according to circumstance.
