Spanish A level at Southborough High School

Course description

Students will study a braod range of topics at AS  / A2 level which are relevant to young adults. Topics studied at AS level typically include:

family life and issues affecting teenagers, healthy lifestyles, the dangers of tobacco and drugs, foreign travel, education and employment and the role of the media in modern society.

A2 looks at these topics in greater depth whilst also covering: the environment, the impact of new technology, customs and beliefs, national and international events and the literature and arts in Spanish speaking countries.

Course content

Study of a modern foreign language like Spanish at AS / A2 level represents a significant step up from study at GCSE in terms of the grammatical and lexical knowledge that students are expected to master.

Lessons typically draw on material from Spanish newspapers, television reports and other media to give students an authentic perspective of the language.

Developing speaking skils at AS and A2 level is of paramount importance. We offer a number of opportunities to develop theses skills through lunch time speaking clubs and one-to-one speaking workshops with guest native speakers.
