Playwork - Level 2 at EKC Group

Course description

Perfect if you want with an introduction to working with children between the ages of 4-16yrs in play environments. 

Course content

You will undertake both classroom-based assessments and practical work experience within a playwork environment. The Diploma consists of 12 mandatory units and between 2-3 optional units, covering a wide range of subjects including; safeguarding, supporting play, personal development and health and safety.
Both mandatory and optional units will develop your understanding and awareness of the playwork principals, which underpin all aspects of your qualification. 
You will also be expected to work towards a grade C in GCSE English and maths. 

Entry requirements

You will need to have 4 GCSEs at D or E grades, English has to be a D grade. 
You will need to provide suitable identification for a DBS check to be carried out and meet the requirements in relation to ‘suitable people’ who can work with children and young people. 


You will learn through classroom-based tasks including – essays, reports, presentations, posters, leaflets and assignments provided by the awarding body (CACHE). 
During your work placement assessments, you will be observed during practical skills, professional discussions and you will need to obtain witness testimonies for your portfolio of evidence.

If you are 16-18yrs old at the start of the Study Programme, it will be free. There may be additional payments required for trips, visits and other materials. For adult learners (over 19) financial support towards the costs of your Study Programme may be available. Eligible students may be able to get help with course related costs such as travel, equipment and childcare.

Future opportunities

On successful completion, you could progress on to our Level 3 Diploma in Playwork (18yrs +). Alternatively, you could choose to join our Level 3 Early Years Education and Care programme, provided you have achieved English and maths GCSEs at grade C or above.
