Accounting AS/A2 Level at Balby Carr Community Academy

Course description

The qualification is built around 4 core units that allow the students to develop a good understanding of accountancy. Not only will students learn how to calculate accounts but also how to manage account effectively.

Unit 1 enables students to understand the foundations of accounting and accounting records. Students will learn how to record transaction using the double entry system.

Unit 2 enables students to understand business final accounts’ and how the nature of a business can impact on its financial situations.

Unit 3 enables them to develop their enterprise and study skills as they will enhance their learning by working in groups, conducting individual research and understanding how to develop business ideas.

And Unit 4 will develop an understanding of manufacturing accounts and certain cost concepts, including contribution, overhead absorption, activity based costing, standard costing and variance analysis.

The unit provides an opportunity to develop two techniques for making capital investment decisions and develop further their understanding of sources of finance.

Entry requirements

The accountancy course is ideally suited to those who have an interest in business and who haveachieved a grade C or above in Business Studies. It is also essential that you are hard working, enthusiastic and able to express yourself well in a written format.

If you have not studied Business Studies before then you will be expected to have achieved Grade A – B in other subjects, preferably English, Maths and ICT.

Assessment

The course will be externally assessed. The students will sit 2 examinations for AS and 2 for A2 that last approximately an hour and half. Assessment will take place end of year in May/June.

Unit 2 – Financial and Management Accounting External Examination

A2

Unit 3 – Further Aspects of Financial Accounting External Examination

Unit 4 - Further Aspects of Management Accounting External Examination
