Course description

The course aims to develop your understanding and practice of drama and theatre in performance. The course focuses on the study of theatre in practice; you will explore a range of texts practically, as well as through live theatre performance. You will develop your skills as performers and directors. as well as exploring design and technical aspects of production. 

Course content

The course is predominantly practical in nature, involving a wide range of collaborative practical workshops, discussion and independent study. Theatre visits and working with professional performers are an important aspect of the course. There is a clear performance focus, with the theoretical and analytical understanding of theatre also developed through practical exploration, class discussion. research and written tasks. 


Component 1 Devising - 40%
Internally assessed devised performance using a play text and practitioner as stimuli accompanied by a written portfolio.
Component 2 Text in Performance - 20%
Externally examined performances of a group piece and a monologue or duologue. each from a different performance text. 
Component 3 Theatre Makers in Practice - 40%
Practical study of 2 contrasting set texts. exploring interpretation and realisation of ideas alongside a live performance evaluation, assessed in a final written examination.

Completion of the course opens up a range of pathways, specialist performance courses, university, and employment with the creative subjects being highly sought after in the wider world.
