Travel and Tourism Advanced 90 Credit Diploma at Derby College

Course description

If you are interested in entering the busy world of travel and tourism, this one-year programme is for you.  It is designed to enable you to develop your skills for a career in an exciting and fast-moving environment.  

You will gain an overview of the sector, the opportunities it presents, the potential for career progression and the skills needed to succeed.  The course will also support your progress to university or employment.

You will go on visits to large tourist attractions, airports and related organisations.  You will also undertake a team building day as team work is crucial within this sector.

Course content

During the programme, you will develop your knowledge in:

  • Marketing travel and tourism products
  • Long-haul travel destinations 
  • Tour operations
  • Specialist tourism
  • Tourism in rural areas
  • Entertainment for holiday makers
  • Work experience in the travel and tourism sector
  • Children’s representatives in travel and tourism
  • Current issues in travel and tourism

Entry requirements

The course is designed for learners who have a minimum of four GCSEs at grade A* - C, including English and Maths.

Candidates will be invited to College for an interview and a screening test as part of the application process. You will be required to achieve a Level 2 in your entrance screening.


Assessment will be carried out using a variety of methods, including role play, presentations and activities, assignments and controlled assessments.

Future opportunities

You can go into specialist areas of employment including airlines, tourism centres, theme parks, travel companies and airports.  Roles could also include working in a travel agency, with a tourist board, as a holiday representative or as an entertainer at a theme park.  

Alternatively you can take your qualifications to the next level and undertake the Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism.
