Geography at Cottingham High School

Course description

This course will encourage you to develop your fieldwork skills and allows you to study and explore diverse geographical issues and the impact that they have. Students who complete their studies on this course will have successfully developed their specialist interest within the field of geography enabling them to progress to higher education and employment.

The course is made up of 3 main elements:-

* Physical Geography - Rivers, Flooding and Management, Coastal Environments, Plate Tectonics, Weather and Climate and Hazards (Volcanoes, Earthquakes and Hurricanes).
* Human Geography - Population Change, Energy Issues, World Cities and Development and Globalisation.
* Geographical Skills - Geographical fieldwork, collecting data, processing it and drawing conclusions. Learn how to use prior data to test theories and make future plans.

You learn how both nature and people help shape the planet. You will discover how people's actions can both benefit and cause damage to our environment and lives. Throughout the course, you also develop your own investigative skills and gain the ability to draw conclusions through your investigations.

Entry requirements

GCSE’s at grade A*-C are generally required.
