Human Biology at Clyst Vale Community College

Course description

The course at AS consists of:

  • Unit 1: (examined in June) blood, heart, circulation, lungs and gas exchange and the chemicals required by the human body.
  • Unit 2: (examined in June) diseases of the human body, human development.
  • Unit 3: (assessed throughout the year) practical skills.The course adopts an approach based on situations in the real world, for example diseases, treatments and procedures carried out by medical professionals. The course content will be reinforced with practical work and discussions on the ethics relating to topics covered.

    The A2 course consists of:

  • Unit 1: Genetics in the 21st Century.
  • Unit 2: The Nervous System.
  • Unit 3: Homeostasis.
  • Unit 4: The Third Age.

  • Entry requirements

    You need to have a GCSE grade B in Core and Additional Science, or a grade B in Biology GCSE or a grade C in Biology iGCSE/Certifi cate as well as grade C minimum in Maths and B in English.
