Course description

If you want to work within the field of electrical installation, this full time course is designed to give you an introduction to electrical installation theory as well as the opportunity to develop your practical skills.

It is suitable for school leavers

Course content

During the course you will study the following modules:

- Health and safety
- Communication skills and the installation of wiring support systems and circuitry
- Structure of the construction industry
- Fundamental safe working practices
- Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings
- Site preparation for working in the construction industry
- Electrical installation wiring and terminations
- Fabrication techniques for electrical installation
- Electrical science and technology.

Entry requirements

To enter you will need to pass a College assesment and have a minimum D/3 grade in Maths and English.

Assessment

Continuous assessment and portfolio building. Written exams.

Progress onto Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures) 2365-02 Level 2 Diploma

Further information

You need to be interested in electrical installation and be able to work with your hands.

You will need steel toe capped boots and supply normal study equipment. The portfolio is supplied by the College but has to be completed by the candidate.

    • Woodlands Campus

      An £8.5 million expansion of our Woodlands Campus now incorporates a new state of the art specialist centre for multi-craft, bricklaying, painting and decorating, plastering, carpentry and an expanded motor vehicle training facility. A new sports pitch also enhances the existing sports facilities.

      The new Engineering and Construction facility houses twelve new workshops; six for construction and six for motor vehicle. The rooms accommodate an MOT/motor sport workshop; an engine workshop and further rooms for decorating, plastering and brickwork.

      Woodlands has purpose-built engineering workshops as well as commercial-standard hair and beauty salons. Our IT facilities, learning resource centres and library are also first-rate.

      We also offer a selection of higher education courses at our Woodlands Campus so you can continue your studies with us.

      Via Bus or Train

      The main bus terminal in north Solihull is located in Chelmsley Wood centre. The number 94, 676, 694, 71, 966 and 966A stop at the main terminal with the number 94 stopping on Auckland Drive. The nearest train stations are Marston Green or Water Orton station both located approximately 20 minutes away.

      The College has free car parking facilities on-site.
