Product Design (3D Design) AS & A Level at Hove Park School and Sixth Form Centre
3D (Product Design) is the development of an idea into a 3 dimensional realisation through material exploration and prototype modelling.
During the first year of the course students will experiment with a wide variety of modelling materials to produce two small projects that make up 50% of their final grade. Within each project students are expected to refer to the work of designers and architects through contextual study tasks. A final exam project is set by the exam board and students will choose a brief from which to work independently. The exam piece is worth the other 50% of the final grade. Students work independently on their chosen exam task where they have a 10 hour practical exam in the first year and a 15 hour practical exam in the second year as well as a 1000-2000 word personal contextual task.
The second year allows students to develop further practical skills and material exploration in the production of one major project before the exam task.
5A*-C GCSEs including an arts GCSE or equivalent.
For both years there is a coursework assignment set by the centre worth 50% and an externally set task worth 50%.
Career opportunities include interior design, web design, fashion, advertising, architecture, illustration, to name just a few.
