Basics in the Construction Industry Entry Level Certificate at Basingstoke College of Technology
Many tradesmen and tradeswomen are expected to have a knowledge and general practical aptitude of a range of different skills used in the construction industry. Students will have the opportunity to try several of the trade areas listed below before deciding which one to choose to study further:
- Introduction to construction work
- Introduction to health and safety
- Handling and storing materials and components
- Personal work skills
- Carrying out operations - this includes Bricklaying, Carpentry and Joinery, Painting and Decorating, Tiling and Plastering
Students may also choose to study for a GCSE to increase their qualifications, or to resit a previous GCSE subject to improve a grade. To enhance employment opportunities the course may also have additional qualifications built into the programme.
4 GCSEs grade F- G to include English and Maths.
The course is continuously assessed by both practical and written assignments/tests.
If you are aged 16-18, tuition and registration fees are free.
If you are aged 19 or over, tuition and registration fees are payable at the start of each year of study; please ask for details.
If you are aged 24 or over, you may be eligible for a Student Loan to assist with your fees; please ask for details.
This course is a recognised route into a full-time diploma 1 course, employment or an Apprenticeship. Please note for progression onto plumbing or electrical courses you must achieve a miniumum of level 1 in literacy and numeracy (English and Maths).
This course offers appropriate work experience to support what you will learn at College.
