ICT Level 2 Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate at Chipping Sodbury School

Course description

Cambridge Technicals in IT are aimed at students who have completed Key Stage 4 of their education and want to study in a more practical, work-related way.

The Cambridge Technicals in IT take an in-depth look at IT that’s all around us, providing students with a theoretical background reinforced with skills that transfer into the modern workplace. The aim is to offer learners an exciting, inspiring and challenging qualification created to develop transferable skills that are essential in the workplace or further study.

There are practical activities in all of the units which follow a ‘learn, do, review’ approach. This course includes a significant amount of hands on activity – for example in unit 4 ‘Installing Computer Hardware’ students will research components and then build a PC from scratch. In unit 1 students will develop and practice their communication skills including presenting information to an audience.

Entry requirements

For Level 2 courses, students are expected to have achieved a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade G or above. All students who have not achieved a C in English or Maths will be required to re-sit that GCSE Course.

  • Unit 1 – Communicating in the IT Industry

Optional Units – two will be chosen:

  • Unit 4 – Installing computer hardware
