Product Design Textiles A2 level at Kings Langley School

Course description

This course will provide opportunities for you to develop your creative, analytical and practical skills using textiles technology as your focus area. You will be involved in designing and making textiles products closely linked to the real world of product manufacture. There are two equally weighted units of study at 'A2' Level.

Course content

Unit 3 - Design and Manufacture.

This develops understanding of the relationship between Design and Technology and form and function. It will focus on materials and components and their application in greater depth. This is the academic part of A2.

Unit 4 Design and making in practice.

This is the design & make unit and is the practical coursework part of A2. It will consist of a single project with a manufactured outcome and a written design folder.

Entry requirements

Design and Technology Textiles Technology GCSE at least at Grade C.

Assessment

AQA

Unit 3 will be assessed through an examination set and marked by AQA.

Unit 4 will take the form of a written or electronic design folder and a final manufactured outcome. This unit will be internally marked for external moderation,

Future opportunities

Courses in higher education: textile design, fashion design, interior design and costume design etc. Many of the research, evaluating and reporting skills will be of great use for a wide range of 'unrelated' areas of study.

Further information

Textiles technology at A2 level requires you to design and make a number of products. You will examine and evaluate real products, trial and test a range of materials and develop modelling skills.
