English Literature A-Level at Hereford Cathedral School

Course description

If you have enjoyed your English Literature lessons, love reading and want to have the chance to study some of the greatest works ever written, then this is the course for you. If you want to learn how to put together some fiercely analytical, well-sustained and intelligently crafted essays, then this is the course for you. If you relish the challenge presented by great Literature of all ages, from Chaucer to McEwan, via Shakespeare, then this is the course for you.

Course content

You will read and analyse poetry, prose and drama, including a Shakespeare play, from across the centuries. The coursework will give you the opportunity to investigate a series of texts at a challenging, detailed and sophisticated level.

Entry requirements

Ideally a minimum of a B grade in English Literature but consideration will be given to any student who is willing to work hard and who is keen to succeed.
