Dance A Level at Heworth Grange Comprehensive School

Course description

Course content

Year 12 Units

Performance and Choreography

  1. Performance in a duet or trio
  2. Choreography (Performance or choreography of a solo)
  • Practical Exam externally assessed 80 Marks
  • 50% AS Level

Critical Engagement

  • Written Exam 2 Hours
  • 80 Marks
  • 50% of AS Level

Students must critically engage with both their own practice and professional practice to understand the interrelationship between the creation, presentation, viewing and appreciation of dance.

Year 13 Units

Performance and Choreography

  1. Solo performance linked to a specific practitioner within an area of study
  2. Performance in a quartet
  3. Group Choreography
  • 80 Marks
  • 50% of A Level

Critical Engagement

Written exam 2 hours and 30 minutes

  • 100 marks
  • 50% A Level
  1. Knowledge and understanding and critical appreciation of a compulsory set work and its location within a corresponding area of study.
  2. Knowledge, understanding and critical appreciation of one optional set work and its location within a corresponding area of study.

Entry requirements

Grade C English Language

Those students who did not study Dance at GCSE should consult Mrs Scott
