Course description

Since many current issues are hugely influenced by events in the past, do you want to understand and explore how the modern world has evolved and why people in the past behaved as they did? Do you like to question, discuss and debate ideas and situations? A level History is a lively and provocative subject to study. Full of issues and arguments it will allow you to reflect on the experiences of people from across the centuries.

Course content

  • Option 1E: Russia, 1917-91: Lenin to Yeltsin                         
  • Option 2E: Mao’s China, 1949-76
  • Option 35.1: Britain: Losing and gaining an Empire, 1763-1914
  • Option 4: Coursework: Interpretations of causes of the Second World War

A good grade at A level History is recognised by all universities as a facilitating subject for entry into a wide range of undergraduate disciplines and courses.  Studying A level History also provides graduates the opportunity to enter into a wider range of occupations including Law, Journalism, Education, Financial Analyst and Business Consultant.
