Sport Development Coaching and Fitness - Triple Vocational A Level (BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma) at Bolton Sixth Form College
Are you serious about sport and willing to work hard? The Sports staff at the College will match your enthusiasm and love of sport to enable you to make the most of both your sporting and academic talents. We will help you to fulfil your potential, to be innovative and take the initiative. We strive to create sports students with strong academic profiles whilst offering excellent sporting opportunities. This qualification will provide you with an introduction to the sports sector.
This two year programme has been developed for the sport and leisure sector to provide education and training for the sports industry. You will have the opportunity to develop a range of techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life or further study.
This two year course consists of 19 units including:
- Sports Massage
- Applied Exercise Physiology
- Sports Nutrition
- Sports Coaching
- Psychology for Sports Performance
- Principles of Anatomy and Physiology
- Practical Team Sport
- Training and Fitness
- Analysis of Sports Performance
During the course you will be assessed through a variety of methods including reports, essays, presentations, verbal consultations and practical assessments.
As part of this course you will have the opportunity to complete the Level 2 Gym Instructor course run by Focus training and is aimed at those hoping to pursue a career within the health and fitness industry. The course equips you with the skills, knowledge and understanding to work with gym users, helping them to reach their health and fitness goals. The qualification is nationally accredited and recognised throughout the UK and overseas.
The department has a number of enrichment opportunities for you to take part in, these include Football, Netball, Cricket, Basketball, Rugby, Softball, Table Tennis and Sports Massage. The College also run competitions where the winning individual or team will represent college at the NW BCS Tournament.
Students will be expected to have five GCSEs at grade A*C/9-4, or a Merit in a relevant vocational Level 2 Diploma (or equivalent). In addition, students will need a grade 4 in GCSE English Language and a minimum grade 3 in Mathematics.
No course fees are applicable for 16-18 year old learners who meet funding regulations.
The course is designed to educate and equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to progress into higher education. Possible career paths include Sports Coaching; PE Teaching; Fitness instructor; Sports Psychologist; Sports Nutritionist; Sports Massage; Sports Rehabilitation
