Art and Design at Madeley Academy

Course description

The BTEC Art course offers a bite-sized opportunity for students to experience a vocational qualification. The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate is pure coursework that requires students to complete four units of work to a high standard using a wide variety of materials, techniques, technology and skills. These units must be supported by sketchbooks which demonstrate the students understanding of the work, which have been produced through drawings, experimental and development work, two dimensional and three dimensional works and continuous written study.

Course content

The course itself has a strong emphasis on vocational study, which means that the projects undertaken are designed to demonstrate a connection with the world of work.

Students will be given four Art and Design briefs:

  • Contextual References in Art and Design.
  • 2.D Visual Communication.
  • 3.D Visual Communication.
  • Working with Visual Arts Briefs

All of this work will lead to a BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate qualification in Art and Design (broadly equivalent to two GCSEs ranging from A* - C).
