Beauty Therapy - Level 2 NVQ at Isle of Man College

Course description

In the first year you will work towards the internationally recognised V.T.C.T. NVQ Level 2 in Beauty Therapy qualification gaining skills in all practical treatments using the latest skin care techniques. You will also learn the relevant knowledge of health and safety, anatomy, physiology and pathology.

In the second year you will build on the high level of skills achieved in the Level 2 to progress to the internationally recognised VTCT NVQ Level 3 in Beauty Therapy where you will be introduced to holistic therapies and learn microdermabrasion and non surgical face list techniques.

Course content

Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy (Year 1):

Salon health and safety
Salon reception duties
Promoting products and services to clients
Develop own effectiveness at work
Provide facial skin care
Provide make-up services
Enhance the appearance of eyelashes and eyebrows
Carry out waxing services
Provide manicure and pedicure services
Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology.

Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy (Year 2):

Safely control work operations
Contribute to planning and implementation of promotional activities
Provide body electrical treatments
Provide facial electrical treatments
Provide body massage treatments
Provide electrical epilation treatments 
Provide Indian head massage
Massage using pre blended aromatherapy oils

Entry requirements

Any of the following:

Minimum of three GCSEs grade C or above, to include English, Science and Maths or an NVQ 2 in Hairdressing. Mature candidates without formal qualifications may be eligible, this will be determined at the interview. [However they will be required to complete either Functional Skills or Maths or English GCSE, this will be determined through initial assessments.] Entry into Year 2 will be dependant on successfully completing all aspects of Year 1.

Assessment

The practical assessment will be achieved within the purpose built College training salons throughout the course. Underpinning knowledge is assessed with projects, assignments and written and online tests. This course work is used to build a portfolio of evidence. All candidates will continue working on clients after achieving competency to ensure the high standards are maintained.
