Spanish A Level at Pendleton Sixth Form College

Course description

Spanish is fast becoming one of the most used languages in the world and the global language of the future. Teaching takes place in a well-resourced language laboratory, which makes learning more fun and interesting. All of the teachers in the department are experienced language specialists, have a passion for culture and language and will inspire you to become fluent in Spanish very quickly.

Course content

The A Level Spanish specification builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills, gained at GCSE, It constitues an integrated study with a focus on language, culture and society. It fosters a range of transferable skills including communication, critical thinking, research skills and creativity, which are valuable to the individual and society. The approach is a focus on how Spanish speaking society has been shaped and culturally and how it continues to change. In the first year,aspects of the social context are studied together with aspects of the artistic life of Spanish speaking countries. In the second year further aspects of the social background are covered, this time focusing on matters associated with multiculturalism. You will develop your knowledge and understanding of themes relating to the culture and society of countries where Spanish is spoken, and your language skills.  They will also cover the study of a Spanish film and a Spanish literacy work. You will be able to improve your linguistic fluency and confidence through additional weekly one to one sessions with our foreign language assistant.

Entry requirements

3 Bs/5s and 3 Cs/4s at GCSE (including B/6 in Spanish)

Assessment

Paper 1 Listening Reading and Writing      40%

Paper 2 Writing                                           30%

Paper 3 Speaking                                        30%

Financial information

Full time courses are free to 16-18 year olds with are EU citizens

In todays Global economy, speaking a language is a great assest for any company. You will learn a skil that you will have and treasure for life. Modern Foreign Language A Levels are considered as facilitating subject by Russell Group universities. You can combine any subject /degree with Spanish at university
