English Language and Literature A Level at Lytham Sixth Form College

Course description

This course encourages students to develop their understanding of English Language and English Literature as a combined discipline and become independent, confident and reflective readers and writers. Throughout the course, critical analysis of the three major literary genres – prose, poetry and drama – along with a range of non-literary texts will hone students’ ability to write for different audiences and purposes. Those planning to continue their study of English to degree level will be developing a skill set that is highly desirable to employers everywhere, the more obvious ones being found in journalism, publishing, PR, marketing, administration and the Civil Service.

Entry requirements

In order to study this A level programme students must gain 5 GCSEs at grades A* - C including English Language at grade B and Maths.

Assessment

A Levels are assessed by a mixture of coursework and exams.
