Health and Social Care BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College

Course description

This course is for you, if you want to work in the field of Health and Care establishments such as: Registered Care Homes Community Work Social Work Probation Services Voluntary Work

Alternatively, if you wish to progress your studies and pursue more advanced study on:- Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work Training Courses and a range of university degree courses to seek a career in the general field of Health or Social Care.

Course content

You will have the opportunity to study the following 9 compulsary core units:

  • Developing Effective Communication
  • Equality, Diversity and Rights.
  • Safety and Security development through the Life Stages Anatomy and Physiology
  • Personal and Professional Development
  • Sociological and Psychological Perspectives
  • Science for Health Nutrition
  • Human Inheritance
  • Work Experience (mandatory 55 hours)

During the second year of the programme students will study a further 9 optional units in Health and Social Care.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs grade A - C, including English and a subject relevant to your chosen area of study. Students with full Level 2 vocational qualifications with an overall Merit/Distinction will be considered alongside 2 GCSEs grade A - C including GCSE English and a good reference. Some subjects will need GCSE maths.

Future opportunities

Study at University on health, nursing, social work, social policy, psychology or criminology programmes. Or have gained employment as a care worker, supervisor, community worker, or outreach worker. You could work as a care assistant or social work assistant. Salaries range from £16,000 to £25,000 for a supervisory position.

Further information

You will learn in dedicated classrooms and undertake a programme of visits and professional input. All learners will be required to undertake work experience.

This is a full time programme which will consist of 3 days per week in college. You must complete a minimum of 100 hours work experience over the 2 year programme.
