BTEC Extended Certificate ICT at Samuel Lister Academy

Course description

Thecourse is suitable for those studying in preparation for employment in theInformation and Communication Technology sector particularly in job roles wherethey will be expected to use ICT skills, liaise with users and carry out ICTsupport roles. It is also suitable for students that want to go onto Level 3study in post 16 or college.

Course content

Students will student four units in total

Unit 1Communicating within the ICT Industry - toolsto communicate and exchange information safely,securely and effectively withdifferent audiences. Learners will alsoconsider the impacts of IT.

Unit 17 WebDesign - a knowledge of how websitesfunction and an understanding of their

purpose as business tools. Learners will thengain develop the skills required to design and create a multiple

page website.

Unit 2Working in the IT industry - is to ensure that learners have knowledge ofthe available job roles involving professional IT and the characteristicsemployers demand in the IT industry.

Unit 23Computer Graphics - knowledge ofthe hardware and software used to generate and manipulate computer generatedimages. Learners will then acquire the skills to produce computer graphics

and use them to enhance documents.

Entry requirements

Thereare no formal entry requirements for this qualification. Although studentswould benefit if they have completed ICT at Key Stage 3


All units are centre-assessedand externally moderated by Edexcel. There are no timetabled exams for thisqualification;

The full award and units fromthis qualification are graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction.
