Course description

Why choose Law?

Law will provide an excellent preparation for anyone considering a career in Law or other legal fields. It is also a well-respected qualification for entry into employment post-18 or application to University.

What does the course involve?

This course aims to provide you with an understanding of the law and the legal system in England and Wales. The course covers the following four areas:

  • Sources of Law: How Parliament and the Courts make the law.
  • Machinery of Justice: How the courts and the legal system work.
  • Legal Personnel: Who does what: solicitors, barristers, judges etc.
  • Criminal law and Justice: Crime and society, the Police, criminal offences, sentencing etc.

You will need commitment and an ability to work independently, as the course involves a great deal of theory and so you must be willing to read around the subject. This is a demanding course that develops your skills in both speech and writing – skills that are extremely important to both universities and employers.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs Grade A*-C including English Language at Grade B or above.
