BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Understanding Enterprise and Entrepreneurship at Newcastle-under-Lyme College

Course description

This course provides a practical and comprehensive introduction to the business and commercial environment. You will experience a wide range of business disciplines leading to a vocational qualification which will prepare you for employment and/or provide career development opportunities and will equip you to enter a career or progress to more advanced studies. The course comprises of varying modules (at Level 2 all units are mandatory) all related to putting a business plan together to set up your own business. These include, researching your market, the marketing plan, financial modelling and forecasting, the entrepreneurial mind-set, managing personal finance, creating a vision for your business Plan, leadership, teamwork, toolkits for idea generation and enterprise in the workplace. (2 x one week work placements)

We also have a host of guest speakers from all walks of life to help to develop business knowledge, skills and business ideas. You will also achieve Level 2 Extended Certificate in Business alongside this qualification.

Maths and English

Alongside your course you will study maths and/or English to improve your skills in these vital subjects by attending structured weekly sessions as part of your timetable. Maths and English development is also integrated in practical assignments.
 

Entry requirements

You’ll need four D (3) grades at GCSE or above. Alternatively, you’ll need a Level 1 qualification with overall Merit in a relevant subject.

Assessment

You are continuously assessed throughout the course by completing assignments. For each Unit standards are laid down, which you have to meet. Your tutors ensure that you are given opportunities to do this through assignments, running events, work experience projects, case studies and problem-solving situations.

Financial information

Newcastle Maintenance Allowance (NMA): Anyone with a household income under £21,000 can receive £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment. The payments will be subject to full attendance on your course. A range of other financial support is available, depending on your personal circumstances.

Future opportunities

The Level 2 Diploma in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship gives you a wide range of choices. Employers welcome people with vocational qualifications; or alternatively if you achieve a Merit you will be able to go on to a Level 3 Extended Diploma qualification or an Apprenticeship. Also after successfully completing this course you will be in a strong position to start up your own business or follow your own business ideas.
