Modern Languages - Enrichment at Wolverhampton Girls' High School

Course description

Would you like to learn a new language? Would you like to develop your language skills within a business context? If your answer to these questions is yes, then language enrichment would be a good choice for you!

The language and examination board to be studied on this entry level course have yet to be decided. It will be a language which girls have not studied in years 7-11.

Progression to Career/ University Courses:

Several students have decided to continue studying their enrichment language at university. For example, in recent years, one student went to UCL to study Russian and Italian, one went to Leicester to study Spanish and Italian and one went to Loughborough to study French and Italian.

Key Points:

The courses are externally assessed and lead to accreditation. Entry level assessment is speaking only. The aim is to develop linguistic competence in a business environment. It is anticipated that students will follow this course as part of an enrichment programme, in addition to AS subjects.

Entry requirements

Students (external and internal) wishing to join the Sixth Form at Wolverhampton Girls’ High School will usually be expected to have achieved a minimum of 6 GCSEs at grades A*- B, including Mathematics and English Language with a minimum average points score of 48 from her best 6 subjects.  Students should preferably have achieved A* or A in the subjects they wish to study at A Level, but with a minimum of grade B. Subjects which are not GCSEs but deemed to be equivalent to GCSEs are not accepted.  The Headteacher reserves the right to make the final decision on the application of this criteria.
