Apprenticeship Vehicle Maintenance - Heavy Vehicle route at Stoke on Trent College

Course description

This course covers mechanical repairs and servicing for heavy vehicles over 3.5 tons. Body Repair Technicians fix the outside body of the car –they remove, repair and replace damaged panels, ensuring that the car is still sturdy and safe. They may fix the vehicle’s alignmentand quality-check all body repairs. Body Refinishing Technicians add the final surface touch by applying primers and paint so everything looks as good as new. These courses combine NVQ and Technical Certificate qualifications along with Functional Skills.

Entry requirements

Candidates must be 16 years of age or over on entry. No formal entryrequirements, but you will have a pre-induction interview/assessment tomake sure this is the right level for you. To enter this programme you will need to show enthusiasm, commitment and interest in the subject area. You will also need to be employed in the industry.

Assessment

NVQ Candidates collect evidence from the workplace to build a portfolio, and assessment includes workplace observations with practical skills measured against recognised industry standards. Assessment of the underpinning knowledge is by written assignments, oral questioning and external examination.
