Media Make-Up Artist Level 2 Foundation Diploma at Basingstoke College of Technology

Course description

The course covers a wide range of subjects including:

  • Photographic Make-Up
  • Styling and Dressing Hair
  • Body Art Design
  • Skin Tanning Techniques 


Attendance of 100% is necessary in order to complete the course.

Students may also choose to study for a GCSE to increase their qualifications, or to resit a previous GCSE subject to improve a grade. To enhance employment opportunities the course may also have additional qualifications built into the programme.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D and above including English and preferably Maths, or the Level 1 Diploma in Hair and/or Beauty with a good attendance record, tutor recommendation and completed work placement.


The course is continuously assessed with some external assessment and testing through written and practical assignments/tests.

Financial information

If you are aged 16-18, tuition and registration fees are free. 
If you are aged 19 or over, tuition and registration fees are payable at the start of each year of study; please ask for details.
If you are aged 24 or over, you may be eligible for a Student Loan to assist with your fees; please ask for details.

Future opportunities

This course is a recognised route into a Level 3 course or employment, including an Apprenticeship.

Further information

This course offers appropriate work experience to complement the knowledge and skills you will learn at College. The course includes an essential trip at an approximate cost of £30. Students may have an opportunity to undertake optional in-house training with external companies at a cost of £20-£30.
