Business OCR Cambridge Level 2 Technical Diploma at St Brendan's Sixth Form College

Course description

This course is for students who want to study on a practical, work-related one year course that has no traditional examinations.  It introduces learners to the skills and knowledge needed to understand how businesses work and operate.  It is an excellent foundation for advancing onto level 3 qualifications in a variety of subjects.

Course content

To achieve the Diploma learners need to accumulate 60 credits. The qualification consists of five mandatory units (units 1 – 5) plus five further units that provide for a combined total of 60 credits.

  • Unit 3: Financial forecasting in Business
  • Uni 4: People in Organisations
  • Unit 5: The Marketing Plan
  • Unit 6: Verbal and non-verbal communications in business contexts
  • Unit 7: Business communication through documentation
  • Unit 8: Training and Employment in Business
  • Unit 10: Customer relations in business
  • Unit 11: Business online

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade D or at point 3 (including English Language) of which only one can be a Level 2 vocational qualification (e.g. BTEC/OCR) at Pass grade or above.

Assessment

This course is assessed by OCR through practical projects and assignments.  All units are assessed by the college and then moderated by an external verifier from the exam board. An overall grade, pass, merit or distinction is then awarded.  This is equivalent to three GCSE’s at C grade, B grade, or an A grade respectively.

Financial information

During the course students are charged for printing and there are also costs incurred when privately buying reliable storage devices to back up their electronic files.  Students are expected to present their assignments in a printed format and in plastic wallets.  In addition, a number of visits and a work placement may be arranged which may require students to make a contribution towards costs.

Future opportunities

This is an excellent course for developing a range of skills needed in either the workplace or in higher qualifications. Many students stay in education and progress onto level 3 courses subject to achieving a merit or above in this Diploma.

Further information

The course includes a two week work placement to give students a realistic insight into the retail environment and apply classroom theory to the real world.

The college has excellent ICT facilities and internet access, and you will be completing all your assignments using office software. In addition, you will have access to text  books, case studies, as well as the work placement.
