Philosophy A Level (Block A) at St Simon Stock Catholic School

Course description

The Religious Studies A Level course gives you the opportunity to study some of the fundamental questions which people always asked about: Why are we here? How should we behave? What happens to us when we die? How do religious believers explain and explore their beliefs? What is knowledge? The Religious Studies A Level includes the major academic disciplines of: Philosophy of Religion, Ethics and Theology.

Course content

It reflects undergraduate study and prepares students for university. It exercises skills such as: comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, argument. It helps students see the bigger picture of religion, reasoning and ethics. It teaches students how to think and form argument.

Entry requirements

In order to study this A Level, you need to achieve at least a grade 5 in RE GCSE and at least a 4 in English.

Future opportunities

Students who have studies this A Level have gone on to university to study subjects including from Theology and Philosophy, Law, Business, Medicine and Engineering. In fact Religious Studies A Level supports any career when you need to: work with others, understand moral ideas and beliefs, make analytical decisions, or think laterally.
