Dance - A Level at The St Marylebone CE School

Course description

This course focuses on the development of own choreography, both solo and group dances. Performance skills are developed in a range of styles and demonstrated in a solo and a trio. Candidates will receive training on the health and safety of the dancer and the theory behind technical training. They will begin to develop critical skills for the analysis of choreography and performance within their own work and in professional repertoire and learn about the development of dance as an art form.

AS Unit 1: Understanding Dance- written exam with short questions and essay questions

AS Unit 2: Choreography and Performance- solo and trio

A2 Unit 3: Dance Appreciation: Content and Context- written exam with essay questions

A2 Unit 4: Group Choreography and Solo Performance

Entry requirements

The school offer for entry is a minimum of 5 A* (9) - B (6) grades at GCSE and a 5 grade in English and Maths GCSE.

Year 12 students must achieve a minimum of a D grade in the Internal Examinations to progress to Year 13.
