City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy at The Canterbury Academy

Course description

You will cover all the technical and non-technical units to achieve a Level 2 qualification.  You will complete assessments and assignments to enhance your knowledge for all units. You will undertake work experience in one of Canterbury‚Äôs salons.

 

The aims of this qualification are to encourage students to:

  • Stimulate and develop enjoyment of hairdressing
  • Develop and demonstrate skills, including practical and research skills
  • Develop essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of the subject and how they relate to each other
  • Appreciate how the subject develops and how combining training in-house and work experience can increase employability
  • Recognise the value of training and forging links with the industry

Course content

Students will cover the following areas within this course:

  • Make up
  • Waxing
  • Manicures
  • Pedicures
  • Facials
  • Massage

 

This will also include health and safety in the salon, consultation and product knowledge, theory of muscles and all elements to support the practical.

Entry requirements

Students must have a passion for beauty. Due to the written component of the course, students are required to have a reasonable Level 2 standard of written English.  Attendance, attainment and attitude must be satisfactory.

Assessment

Practical assessments are carried out in the beauty salon on clients, friends or family. The criteria are set out by City and Guilds. Written assessments are in the form of assignments also set out by City and Guilds.

Future opportunities

Vocation 

Students can progress onto the following:

  • Employment (e.g. Spas, salons, cruise liners, television)

With experience students can eventually progress onto becoming a salon owner.

 

Academic

Students can progress onto the following:

  • Level 3 in beauty
  • Level 3 you can progress onto becoming an assessor
