Bricklaying City & Guilds Foundation Diploma Level 1 at Fareham College

Course description

This course is for students looking to develop their skills in bricklaying with the aim of pursuing a career in this area of the construction industry.

You will develop your skills by undertaking a range of practical workshop activities, and gain an understanding of supporting theoretical knowledge.

All students will be expected to also complete qualifications in English and Maths and be given the opportunity to gain specific employability skills.


Course content

  • Principles of building construction, information and communication

  • Setting out building of masonry structures

  • Carrying out blocklaying, bricklaying and cavity wall activities

  • Health, safety and welfare in construction


Entry requirements

  • Positive attitude and commitment to complete the qualification.
  • Suitability to the course will also be considered during an interview with a member of the Construction or Student Services Team, which will involve an aptitude and skills assessment.

Financial information

Student will be expected to provide their own overalls and safety footwear. All other resources & equipment will be provided. We will be able to discuss course requirements at your application interview.

Future opportunities

You can progress on to Level 2 Bricklaying, an Apprenticeship, or employment as a bricklayer on construction sites, domestic or commercial properties for maintenance, renovations and extensions.
