A Level in Spanish at The Douay Martyrs School
Spanish is a prestigious subject which develops academic ability and practical language skills. It is valuable as a qualification for further language study and as a support for other subjects. Studying Spanish can give a European dimension to a professional career.
Independent study is essential to succeed in A-Level Spanish. Students are encouraged to keep abreast of current affairs by regularly reading Spanish newspapers and listening to the news broadcasts. Internet research tasks are central to the course. Students are also encouraged to study Spanish films and literature.
Course content is based on the following: Youth Culture and Concerns, Lifestyle, Health and Fitness, The World around us and Education and Employment allowing the students to gain an awareness of events and issues in Spain. Speaking presentations give the opportunity to research a topic of personal interest in-depth. This may be a literary topic or a reflection of other A-Level themed studies.
Serious commitment is as important as GCSE grades. Preferably, you will have achieved a grade B at GCSE level.
