Business BTEC level 3 National Extended Diploma at Heathcote School & Science College

Course description

This BTEC National is a Level 3 qualification designed to provide a highly specialised work-related qualification and to give students the knowledge, understanding and skills that you need to prepare for employment. 
Aimed at students who want to make a career in Business, it develops an understanding of finance, marketing, human resources, management and communication. It is equivalent to three A Levels.

Course content

The Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business consists of four mandatory units plus optional units.
Areas of Study include:
  • Accounting,
  • Marketing,
  • Human Resources,
  • Management,
  • Law
  • Administration  
  • Retail. 
The course is divided into 18 units over two academic years.
Although the emphasis of the course is to be "vocational", it does not mean that it will not be hard work or be without stresses! The nature of the course will enable you to develop other skills and personal qualities including personal time management, organisation and prioritising skills, team working skills, independent research skills, and key skills such as communication, numeracy and ICT. 
The vocational nature of the course means that you will be required to Investigate and apply your knowledge to real businesses situations and gain appropriate work experience at the end of year 12. 

Entry requirements

To study BTEC level 3 Business, you will need 5 or more A*-C grades at GCSE, including English Language. 

Future opportunities

When you successfully complete the two-year course it will allow you to progress toward your chosen career path. 
After successfully completing the course to a good standard, you will be able to access a variety of degree and Higher National Diploma (HND) courses in business and business related areas. These areas include:
  • business,
  • management,
  • marketing,
  • law,
  • banking and finance,
  • international business,
  • human resource management
  • accounting. 
Alternatively you may wish to enter employment in a business related area. You will be able to choose from a range of employment opportunities which best match your aspirations and career choices.
