Health and Social Care Level 3 Year 1 at Newbury College
The Foundation Diploma is a one year full time course. This new specification offers a common-sense programme of study in the health and social care sector that supports progression to the Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care (Year 2) or Apprenticeship within the sector
This course is equivalent to 1.5 A levels and comprises 6 units of study
You will learn about Working in Health and Social Care, Principles of Safe Practice, Physiological Disorders and their Care and Human Lifespan Development
At Newbury College we value the experience delivered through work placement both as a means to obtain long term employment, but also to provide meaningful experiences for the UCAS personal statement. Opportunities are available through many different settings in residential, nursing care and those with special needs and covers one unit of study
Students will need to have five GCSE passes at grade C or above, including Maths and English and preferably Science. Alternatively, students will be accepted onto the course if they have an equivalent vocational qualification at a merit grade, and Functional Skills Maths and English, preferably at Level 2. All students must have achieved, or show the ability to achieve, Maths and English to GCSE grade C or equivalent. Where a student has not yet fulfilled this requirement, a functional skills qualification is a mandatory part of this course.
This qualification is assessed through externally assessed units usually a 90 minutes exam and internally assessed assignments
Students could progress into the second year to achieve the equivalent of 3 A Levels and incurs UCAS points. Progression to Nursing, Social Work and Psychology is achievable from the qualification
