Activity Leadership Apprenticeship (Intermediate Level 2) at Blackburn College

Course description

This Apprenticeship covers a range of occupations within Leisure & Learning Activities, one of the largest industries in the country. Apprentices interested in Coaching could train as a coach in a public leisure centre or private sports facility or learn how to support learners doing after school activity in large scale organisations like in schools. You could progress to work in all sorts of aspects of the sports industry from small private sector companies to chain leisure centres through to individual personalised training. 

If you are aged 16-24, and you don't think you have the necessary 'work-ready' skills, we also offer Traineeships. Our 8 week courses provide the essential work preparation training, English, maths and work experience needed to secure your place on an Apprenticeship. 

Course content

Selection of units from the Activity Leadership (Coaching /PE) Intermediate Apprenticeship:

  • Prepare for Activity Sessions
  • Lead Activity Sessions
  • Conclude and Review Active Sessions

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements to study an Apprenticeship at Blackburn College. You will have an initial assessment when you come in for an interview, and this will show the level of English and maths qualifications, known as functional skills, that you will study alongside your apprenticeship.

Blackburn College will work with applicants to help find a suitable employer where possible. However we always advise anyone looking to undertake an apprenticeship to be actively seeking employment for themselves too.

Assessment

You will be assessed in one or more of the following ways:

  • Course work
  • Exams
  • Oral Questioning
  • Portfolio of Evidence
  • Practical Demonstration /Assignment
  • Practical Examination
  • Written Examination

Future opportunities

The Intermediate Apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to progress onto an Advanced Apprenticeship. On successful completion of the Apprenticeship natural progression would be to a higher level course or promotion within your employment to give you a broader range and quality of skills and understanding of the industry and its requirements.
