Plumbing and Heating Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship at Lancaster and Morecambe College

Course description

As an Apprentice you really do get the best of both worlds; you will earn a salary and gain real experience in the workplace with your employer as well as working towards a nationally recognised NVQ and other qualifications. Apprenticeships are suitable for well-motivated people who are focussed and know which career path they want to follow. They offer high quality work-based training as an alternative to full time study. This programme is aimed at people who are employed, or are seeking employment. You will need to be 16 years of age or over. Apprenticeships are available at level 2 and level 3.

Course content

• Employment should be for a minimum of 30 hours per week, with training in both the workplace and at College • Attendance at College on a regular basis, weekly and block release 

Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship covers:

• Diploma in Domestic Plumbing and Heating • Gas, Water and Central Heating Appliances Also: • You will receive tuition to support the underpinning knowledge required for your work based training • You will receive regular monitoring and assessment both in the workplace and at college • There are no formal examinations in the NVQ as your work is assessed on an on-going basis. However, if you are required to undertake the ACS gas assessment course as part of the level 3 training there are tests and practical assessments associated with this • There are a number of unit tests and assignments for this Diploma • Also available is the environmental route - Solar thermal an alternative to gas

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade A*-C including English and maths OR a Level 2 related qualification. Relevant work experience will also be considered Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager. 

Assessment

This course is continuously assessed in the workplace using a range of methods including portfolio building, on the job assessment, presentations and some qualifications have exams. 

Financial information

Apprenticeship training is currently fully funded; however this is subject to change. 

Further information

On completion of this course you will receive a City and Guilds Diploma in Plumbing and Domestic Heating QCF which includes work-based and college training, and a Functional Skills qualification. 

Once you have gained employment you could start this programme at the agreed time of the year.
