Interactive Media BTEC Level 3 at Don Valley School and Performing Arts College

Course description

The Level 3 Certificate in Interactive Media provides the knowledge, understanding and technical skills for learners wishing to enter upon a career in Animation, Digital Design, or Computer Games Design.

The course is structured to encourage the development of the skills required be the new media industry. In this course you will develop knowledge of the exciting new creative design industries. Interactive media will equip you with the creative thinking skills and technical capabilities to bring your ideas to life – in animation, web, and games production. You will use industry-standard software to create original media products, fit for purpose in an ever-changing media landscape. Units include: Stop Motion Animation Production, 2D Animation Production, Drawing Concept Art for Computer Games, Computer Games Design and Web Animation for Interactive Media.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or better. No more than two applied courses can count towards this total and each applied course counted has the equivalence of only one GCSE, regardless of its nominal size. In addition, students must achieve the specific entry requirements which may apply to this course.

Assessment

You will be assessed by practical work and a collection of evidence from your portfolio. The course is unit based: each unit has a credit value and assessments are made throughout the course.

The Level 3 Certificate in Interactive Media is an ideal route for students looking for places at universities and colleges, and careers in interactive and online media, animation, web design and the games industry. Alternatively you could expect to be employed in the creative industries at junior level.

Student’s progress on to specialist courses at Degree, Higher National Diploma or Foundation Degree level.
