Art & Design, Level 2 Diploma at Abingdon and Witney College

Course description

Weekly tutorials and visits to exhibitions will support your learning. Students will exhibit their own work at the end of year exhibition. The Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design is made up of 7 mandatory units and a choice of two optional units. Mandatory units include introduction to materials, techniques and processes, contextual research in art and design, solving 2D creative problems and developing/ producing a personal project. The following areas will be studied during the year and include: observation drawing, two dimensional art and design including printmaking, using Photoshop on the Apple Macs, photography digital and darkroom based) and contextual studies. All students will also study functional skills such as maths and English. The Art and Design department have been invited to join the prestigious UAL (University of the Arts London) examining board. This means that all of our Art and Design qualifications will be awarded certified by UAL. Advantages to this include a guaranteed interview in to any of the London UAL University Colleges after completion of the Level 3 qualification and the opportunity to exhibit Final Major Project work at Chelsea College of Art at the end of the academic year after successful completion of the Level 2 Diploma.


Entry requirements

You will need to show a keen interest in art and design. At interview you will need to present a portfolio of recent work. You will need a minimum of four qualifications from Functional Skills at Level 1 or GCSEs at grade D or above. (At least one of these must be a GCSE grade C or above in an art and design related subject). OR Level 1 Certificate in Art, Design and Media.
