Drama and Theatre Studies A level at Chancellor's School
All students are now following the Edexcel course. For year 12 this will be Edexcel GCE in Drama and Theatre Studies (8DRO1) and year 13 will follow the A2 course, 9DRO1.
Main topics covered:
Theatre styles, Theatre practitioners, genre, live theatre analysis, improvisation and scripted performances.
Unit 1 - (6DRO1) Workshops on two contrasting plays are recorded and assessed. Pupils submit exploration notes and an evaluation of a live performance. The work is internally assessed and externally moderated. (Mark awarded out of 60)
Unit 2 - (6DRO2) Performance of a monologue or a duologue, alongside a written performance concept. Also pupils perform in a play text chosen by the teacher. This is externally examined. (Mark awarded out of 80)
Unit 3 (6DRO3): A practical devised performance influenced by the work of various practitioners. Students also provide supporting written evidence. The work is internally assessed and externally moderated. (Mark awarded out of 60)
Unit 4 (6DRO4): 2 ½ hour written paper on two set texts. Three questions cover rehearsal, performance, social and historical context.
