Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 3 at Sandwell College

Course description

This one-year Level 3 course is ideal for school leavers who have good grades, some previous mechanical experience, and wish to gain practical experience in a wide variety of automotive trades. It is also suitable for learners progressing from a Maintenance and Repair Level 2 programme.

Course content

The programme is approximately 35% practical and 65% theory. Students are always encouraged to gain subject-related work experience.

Entry requirements

You will preferably have a VRQ at Level 2, or relevant industrial experience, plus GCSEs at grades A-C in English, Maths, Science or ICT.


The course is primarily assessed through on-line examinations, spread over the course of the year. Practical assessments will also form an important part of the qualification.

Future opportunities

On completion of this course successful learners may choose to progress to Level 4, consider a career as an apprentice in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or gain employment within the automotive sector.
