Geography - A Level at Bishop Milner Catholic College

Course description

This course has been designed to increase the choice offered to students studying A Level Geography, allowing for specialisation and progression to higher education and employment. There will be natural progression from GCSE to A Level, ensuring that there is development of content.Students will be given the opportunity to develop fieldwork skills and study geographical issues and impacts.

Course content

What will I study during the AS course & how will it be assessed?

Students will experience a week length residential fieldwork course during Year 12. Previous trips have been to The Isle of Arran, The Peak District, Yorkshire and Shropshire. Other daytrips are incorporated into the course to enhance understanding of core units such as rivers, coasts and settlements.Geography is studied in two areas:

Unit 1: Physical and Human Geography (Examination)

This units includes Rivers & flood management and Coastal environments, Global population change and health issues70% of AS

Unit 2: Geography Skills (Examination)

This units includes structured skills and generic fieldwork questions30% of ASWhat will I study during the A2 course & how will it be assessed?

Unit 3: Physical and Human Geography (Examination)

Plate tectonics and associated hazards and Challenges facing ecosystemsWorld cities – evolution and revolution.30% of A Level

Unit 4: Geography Fieldwork investigation

This units includes structured short and extended questions based on fieldwork investigation and skills.20% of A Level
