Course description

Do you know what makes a fantastic shopping experience? Can you put customers at ease?

The UK’s retail sector is a young, vibrant industry with plenty of opportunities to progress your career quickly and Skills Made Easy can help.

There are many different opportunities to build a career in the retail sector, ranging from the shop floor to the hair salon. Behind the scenes you might be responsible for checking stock levels and influencing purchasing decisions or you may be able to apply your creativity to visual merchandising.

You could be helping someone obtain that new look they’ve always wanted.

 

Course content

Level 2 and Level 3 apprenticeships are avaliable, depending on your age and current qualifications but also the industry you choose.

You will obtain an NVQ certificate or diploma and technical qualifications in your particular employment area and essential qualifications in Maths and English to support your ongoing development. You will be guided by your assessor who will work with you one-to-one throughout your apprenticeship.

What skills will I learn?

What you learn as an apprentice will depend on your role and the type of business, but this can include:

• Customer service

• Stock management

• Hair styling

• Merchandising

• HR processes

Entry requirements

Good communication skills are important in a retail environment as it’s likely that you will spend a lot of time talking to members of the public.

Numeracy skills are also important. Candidates are expected to be reliable, punctual and accurate with their work, and have a willingness to learn

Minimum of level 4 in Maths and English.

Future opportunities

Working in a retail environment will give you an opportunity to build and develop your career quickly and the types of jobs available to you through this apprenticeship include: sales assistant, stockroom assistant, beauty consultant and visual merchandiser.

After completing your apprenticeship you may have the option to specialise in a particular area, especially if you are working in a large department store and you will have the opportunity to use the experiences you gain to be promoted to a supervisory role or management role.
