Level 1 BTEC Sport: Football and Education Scholarship at The Leeds United Foundation

Course description

The Level 1 Education and Football Programme is a specialist work related course built around the BTEC First Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure covering the foundations of sport such as team work and leadership. This course particularly suits those wanting to enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector as you will gain valuable work experience whilst completing the BTEC Certificate in Workskills. To top it all off you can gain valuable English and Maths qualifications.

Alongside the academic aspect of the course, you will also become a player and a scholar with Leeds United Foundation and compete within the Foundation League against other football teams and also other colleges. Upon successful completion of the course you will have the opportunity to progress on to the Level 2 Education and Football Programme.

Course content

The Level 1 Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure consists of the following units:

  • Taking Part in Exercise and Fitness
  • Planning own Fitness Programme
  • Physical Activities for Children
  • Assisting a Leader of Sport or Active Leisure Activities to Plan & Deliver an Activity

  • Assisting at a Sport or Active Leisure Event
  • Investigate Rights & Responsibilities at Work
  • Job Opportunities in Sport & Active Leisure

The Level 1 Certificate in Workskills will be taught alongside your sports studies and consists of the following units:

  • Practising Leadership skills with Others
  • Learning from More Experienced People
  • Job Opportunities in Sport & Active Leisure
  • Searching for a Job
  • Applying for a Job
  • Preparing for an Interview
  • Interview Skills
  • Career progression
  • Planning an Enterprise Activity
  • Running an Enterprise Activity

Functional Skills English & Maths will also be delivered alongside your sports st

Entry requirements

 

No previous qualifications necessary but a keen interest in sport is desirable

Assessment

All units are assessed through assignments which are submitted via the interactive learning platform in a variety of formats; these include written reports, posters, practical sports, demonstrations, group tasks, interviews, practical coaching, presentations, work experience, projects, performance observation and time-constrained assessments.

Financial information

All students will be eligible to apply for bursaries and travel passes though the funding provider

A charge of approximately £150-£200 for Leeds United kit pack and training wear.

Future opportunities

The BTEC qualifications in Sport have been developed to meet employer needs in the sport and active leisure sector and to give full-time learners the opportunity to enter employment in this sector or to progress to further education. In particular this course prepares students for the Btec Level 2 Education and Football Programme as well as employment in the sport and active leisure industry.
