Course description

Food Technology - AS Overview: A one year course which could be extended into a full A Level over two years. Units: Over the two years, three units are covered: A - Materials and components: Classification of materials / properties of food / manipulation and combining of food. B - Design and market influences: Development of D&T / design in practice / design in the human context. C - Process and manufacture: Industrial and commercial practice / product manufacture / systems and control. Assessment: AS - extended coursework (50%) and one 2 hour written paper (50%).

Future opportunities

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses such as Art and Design and Computing or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Design and Technology, which could lead onto higher education in areas of and design, technology, architecture or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to design and technology such as an Architect, Carpenter or Computer Technician. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will encourage you to explore your creative mind and help you develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
