Public Services Level 1 at Peterborough Regional College

Course description

This course is an ideal preparation for a career in the uniformed services such as
police, army, fire or ambulance service. You will study the practical skills and knowledge you will need for careers in public services such as fitness, team working, map–reading and participation in adventurous outdoor activities.

Course content

Topics covered on the course include: • Well–being and physical fitness • Develop team working skills • Self–discipline and development • Adventurous outdoor activities • Volunteering • Preparation for work • Planning an event

Entry requirements

You will need Entry Level 3 or above and an interest in this subject and a
willingness to work hard. If you are an ESOL learner you must have completed and passed Entry 3 ESOL.


The course is assessed through written assignments and practical activities.

Financial information

You will need warm, waterproof clothes and tough boots for land navigation.
There may also be costs for uniform and residential visits (both locally and
nationally), of approximately £300.


Future opportunities

This course is a fantastic introduction to careers in the public/uniformed services. On successful completion of this course and the achievement of functional skills English and maths you can progress on to the Public Services Level 2 course.

Further information

This course can be combined with English, Maths, Work Experience and Employability Skills.
